Status Of The T2K Experiment *

The Tokai-to-Kamiokande (T2K) experiment is a second generation long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment, which is expected to start up in 2009.  A high intensity muon neutrino beam will be produced using the 50GeV proton synchrotron at Tokai, Japan, and aimed at the Super-Kamiokande detector 295 km away.  A near detector located 280m from the pion production target will measure the neutrino beam properties before oscillation.  The goals of the first stage of the experiment include the precision measurement of the nm disappearance parameters q23 and Dm232, the determination of q13 by the measurement of the nm to ne appearance signal, and the confirmation of nm to nt oscillation by the detection of neutral current events.  The physics goals, the design, and the present status of the T2K experiment will be presented.
