The Plan
- Dec 30, 2003: Arrive in Santiago Chile. Hang out with Fiona, Julio, Sherlock, Magali and Alison. (Fiona and Ali are Andrew and I's cousins)
- Jan 2, 2004: Take the train down to Osorno (just North of Puerto Montt, in case you're using the map above). Start cycling into the Andes.
- A couple days later: Chill out in San Carlos de Bariloche. This town is purported to be a popular vacation spot for Brazillian college girls. Needless to say, this will be the high point of our voyage... topologically speaking...
- A few days later: Hang out in Esquel, the biggest town we'll see for the next little bit. Stock up on water and food.
- A week or so later: Arrive in Commodoro Rivadavia, on the Atlantic. Enjoy the sights, sounds and smell of off-shore oil drilling. Maybe try to spot some sea lions and penguins. From here-on the killer westerly cross-winds will be our worst enemy.
- A while later: By the time we arrive in Rio Gallegos we will be dusty, tired and hard of hearing from the "roaring forties" and "furious fifties"... or we'll be in the comfort of a bus...
- Jan 20, 2004: We hope to be in Rio Gallegos to catch a tour bus into the moutains to hike arround in the moutains and glaciers with Tom and Ali. (Tom is also our cousin).
- A few days later: After that much needed break from our bikes, we will finish the few days into Punta Arenas, from where we will endeavour to get back to Santiago (navy ship, airplane or bus).
- Jan 27, 2003: We fly back to Montreal. Shortly thereafter, Andrew will return to Toronto to work for a bank, Ben will work in a geography lab at McGill and I will return to Vancouver to work in a nuclear physics lab.
