Prospects for the Physical Implementation of Quantum Computation

David P. DiVincenzo

There are many experiments being done now, in atomic physics, quantum optics, nuclear and electron magnetic resonance, superconducting electronics, and quantum-dot structures, pointed towards realizing a quantum computer. I will discuss five requirements that these systems need to meet if they are to succeed. I will discuss recent innovations in the quantum dot and quantum optics approaches.
