How the environment drives galaxy evolution

Sadegh Khochfar

University of Oxford

In my talk I will discuss several stages in the formation of cluster/groups of galaxies and how these influence the properties of the galaxies within them. In particular I will discuss how star formation is enhanced at high redshifts in the proto-cluster phase due to large infall rates of cold gas onto galaxies and how star formation is supressed at late times in clusters when substantial heating sources, like e.g. gravitational heating or dynamical friction heating compensate for cooling in the intra-cluster medium.
