The quest for precision in particle physics

Simon Caron Huot

Niels Bohr International Academy

Sometimes one encounters physical systems which behave more simply than expected. I will discuss a surprising way in which this applies to elementary particles at the shortest of distances. Their interactions, as described with great accuracy and success by the Standard Model of particle physics, are being intensely scrutinized by a joint effort of collider experimentalists and theorists. In this talk I will tell the story of how, from a theorist's perspective, this quest for precision is revealing new structures that are beginning to change the way we think about elementary particles.
