New Views of the Magnetized Sky

Bryan Gaensler

Over the past 20 years, large projects such as the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey have provided a wealth of information about magnetic fields throughout the Universe. However, these data sets all had limited sensitivity, sky coverage or bandwidth. To move past these limitations, the community has been working toward a suite of new wide-field radio polarization surveys, which aim to provide more than a million polarization measurements over the sky. I will provide an overview of the new polarization results emerging from the next generation of wide-field surveys, which showcase the transformational potential of these data sets for understanding astrophysical magnetism.
